Admitted students, incoming students and their parents are invited to student receptions in targeted regional areas. This is an opportunity for students to meet with other prospective students, Ohio University administrators, current OHIO students, and local OHIO alumni in an informal and relaxed setting.
OHIO VAAN members can participate in these receptions by assisting with student registration, greeting students and their families, providing food or door prizes, completing follow-up communication with students, producing name tags, etc.
Admitted Student Receptions are held in early spring and help students and parents with questions as they make decisions about college their choice. These receptions are referred to as a ‘yield activity,’ one in which OHIO hopes to encourage admitted students to enroll to the university. Typically this receptions are planned and funded by Undergraduate Admissions.
Incoming Student Send-Off Picnics/Receptions are held in August, sometimes at the home of an OHIO alum or in a venue such as a hotel, community center, park, etc. The send-offs bring together students (and their families) who will be attending Ohio University that academic year to meet alumni from their area, current students from their area and OHIO administrators. These receptions are usually organized and funded by OHIO alumni chapters and/or individual alumni in the geographic region.
