A special note to prospective Ohio University students

This is a busy time for you, whether you head off to high school every day or head down the hall to your computer for online classes. And you still have decisions about college to make. Ohio University has been innovating and adapting for 217 years, so we can help you manage the challenges you face now and forever.

We have recently expanded our in-person visit opportunities, so that you can experience our beautiful campus for yourself. We also offer multiple ways to connect with us online, including an immersive virtual tour. While Undergraduate Admissions staff continues to work remotely away from our campuses, we are fully available and are standing by to assist you during our regular business hours: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern. You can also call us, text us, email us, or sign up for a virtual one-on-one appointment.

In-Person Campus Visits

We're excited to be able to offer you choices for visiting OHIO. Undergraduate Admissions is offering in-person campus visits for both prospective and admitted students with mandatory COVID-19 safety protocols for visitors. Register now for a campus visit.

Our campus visits take approximately two hours, including an info session led by an Undergraduate Admissions advisor followed by a campus walking tour. While most tour stops will be outside, you will be able to visit residence halls, dining facilities, and classrooms.

Virtual Visit Opportunities

We’re also offering virtual tours and info sessions, appointments with admissions advisors, chats with faculty or current students, academic and financial aid webinars, new social media groups, and more. You can find information and register for our virtual visits online now.

All future Bobcats are encouraged to experience the virtual tour of our beautiful, historic Ohio University campus, with customized tour options that allow you to explore the Athens campus, housing and dining, athletics, and the arts at OHIO.

At each of our regional campuses, staff are available to meet virtually with prospective and admitted students and their families, too. You can find information and register for virtual visits and events for the regional campuses online now.

OHIO Admission Promise for Guaranteed Admission

The OHIO Admission Promise offers guaranteed admission to qualifying students with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a strong college prep curriculum. Applications must be received by our extended deadline of March 1, 2021 (application fee waived!). And we're taking that promise even further by offering, at minimum, a renewable $2,000 OHIO Admission Promise Award when we receive the results of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1, 2021. Review the details on eligibility requirements and more on the OHIO Admission Promise web page.

Extended Fall 2021 Freshman Application Deadline

The college application process has never been more challenging, so we are offering families more time to plan and to apply.  We have extended our freshman application deadline to March 1. Applicants will be considered for direct admission to the major of their choice, available scholarships, and the OHIO Honors Program, as space permits. You can submit your application online via the Common Application or our alternative application.

Application Fee-Waivers Available

If your family needs an application fee-waiver due to extenuating financial circumstances during this period, you can request one by e-mailing admissions@ohio.edu.

Test-Optional Admission Pathway for Athens Campus Freshman Admission

Ohio University has created a test-optional pathway for admission to the Athens campus. Transfer and international applications, applications to OHIO's regional campuses, and OHIO Online applications do not require submission of ACT or SAT, so the test-optional pathway is not needed. In accordance with state guidelines, College Credit Plus applicants may still be required to submit test scores.

All applicants, including test-optional applicants, will be eligible to be considered for University benefits, including direct admission to academic programs, merit-based scholarships, and honors and scholars programs. Ohio University will adjust internal processes appropriately to ensure that no student is penalized in admission selection if they do not submit a test score. More information is available on our test-optional information page.

Flexible Approach to Reviewing Recent Academic Performance

We know that the academic disruption caused by various COVID-19 response plans during the pandemic may mean that students experience variable academic performance. We ask that you do your best as you complete the academic term and that you honor and respect the educators who are striving to help you. We are committed to reviewing coursework and performance always with a clear understanding of the context under which the coursework was performed, both for the immediately available entry terms and beyond.

Flexible Credential Support for Transfer Admission

If a transfer applicant is unable to secure an official transcript due to a sending institution’s COVD-19 or other emergency response plan, please contact a transfer admissions advisor.

Accepting New Format Advanced Placement Scores

OHIO recognizes the extraordinary circumstances under which this year’s class of Advanced Placement students will be completing their examinations, and we are committed to continuing to honor AP scores of 3, 4, and 5 for college credit as outlined on our Credit by Examination web page.

Receipt of Other Institutions’ Alternative Grading Systems

OHIO has made available an alternative grading system for our currently enrolled students during the spring 2021 semester. As such, we are prepared to receive and honor other schools' and institutions’ alternative grading systems created in response to COVID-19, including grades such as satisfactory/no credit grade for undergraduate courses unless those courses are exempt. Specific details, including any limitations or clarifications, will be developed throughout the remainder of spring as other institutions’ policies become clear.
