Frequently Asked Questions

Apply and Admissions

  • For fall semester, the early action deadline for freshmen is December 1. For transfer students, the fall priority date is June 15. View a complete list of dates and deadlines at www.ohio.edu/admissions/apply/dates.cfm.

  • Undergraduate Admissions looks for evidence of academic preparation in a strong college-preparatory curriculum when reviewing applications for admission. We consider the following criteria:

    • Strength of curriculum
    • Performance in curriculum
    • Class rank
    • Grade point average
    • ACT and/or SAT scores

The following items indicate the average ranges of the middle 50 percent of our fall 2016 freshman class in a variety of academic areas:

    • Top 16-46% of their graduating high school classes
    • Average composite ACT score of 21-26
    • Average combined SAT score of 1010-1190 (math and critical reading)*
    • Average high school grade point average of 3.48 (on a 4.0 scale)

    * This score refers to the old SAT format for tests taken prior to March 2016. Beginning with spring 2017 applicants, Undergraduate Admissions will consider both old SAT and new SAT scores. While we will continue to superscore (combine subscores from multiple test dates) across the same version of the SAT, we will not superscore between the new SAT and old SAT. Additional information about new SAT scores coming soon.

Some of our programs have more selective criteria above and beyond general admission guidelines.

  • Applying for scholarships is easy! When you apply for admission to Ohio University, you are automatically considered for all OHIO first-year and transfer student scholarships. In order to be fully considered for all freshman scholarships, you must have a complete application on file by the early action deadline of December 1 for the following fall semester. Applicants who apply by the rolling admission deadline--including the application form and all required supporting materials--will be considered for all University benefits, as space permits. In order to be fully considered for transfer scholarships, you must apply and be admitted by the priority date of May 15 for the following fall semester.

  • Personal interviews or auditions are not required for most students. However, students applying to the School of Music or the School of Dance must audition and should contact these schools directly. Qualified students applying to Honors Tutorial College may be invited to participate in a required interview to gain full admission to those programs.

  • You are considered to be a "re-enrolling student" if you take a fall or spring semester off, and then decide to return to Ohio University. Taking the summer off does not make you a re-enrolling student. Re-enrolling students should complete a re-enrollment form. Students seeking reinstatement because of an academic dismissal should visit the University College Academic Advising website.
