Associate in Arts

 

Program Description

 

The Associate in Arts degree is perfect if you wish to earn a two-year degree to set your future goals and to discover your area of interests. When you wish, you can go back and build upon your degree and earn your Bachelor's degree. The Associate in Arts is perfect groundwork to discover your future.  

 

Admission Information
At least 30 of the total credits earned toward the Associate of Arts must be Ohio University credits. Technical courses count only as electives.

 

Policy on second Associate degrees
You are not permitted to earn both the Associate of Arts and the Associate of Science degrees. If you have already earned the Associate of Individualized Studies degree, you may not earn either the Associate of Arts degree or the Associate of Science degree.

 

Application toward Bachelor's Degree
Credit earned while enrolled at Ohio University associate's degree program will be applied toward an Ohio University baccalaureate degree program. If you intend to complete a baccalaureate degree, you should complete Ohio University General Education Requirements while working toward your associate's degree.

 

Associate's Degree after Baccalaureate Degree
If you have already earned a baccalaureate degree, you may pursue an Associate in Individualized Studies degree, depending on the rationale for doing so and the desired area of concentration. The Associate of Arts and the Associate of Science degree is not an appropriate objective if you have already earned a baccalaureate degree.

 

Graduation Requirements
Requires a minimum of 96 credit hours. A maximum of 24 credits earned through Experiential Learning Program may be applied to the degree. You must also have at least a 2.0 g.p.a. at graduation.

 

Emphasis
You must take the required courses in the coursework section in order to graduate. You must choose one of the following areas of emphasis for the degree:

Associate in Arts - Arts and Humanities Emphasis
Associate in Arts - Social Sciences Emphasis

Natural Science, Applied Science, and Quantitative Skills (must include Tier I quantitative skills) - 15 hours
Social Sciences - 15 hours
Electives - 36 hours
Total = 96 hours

 

Social Sciences Emphasis
Arts and Humanities (must include Tier I English Composition) - 15 hours
Natural Science, Applied Science, and Quantitative Skills (must include Tier I quantitative skills) - 15 hours
Social Sciences - 30 hours
Electives - 36 hours
Total = 96 hours
