Academic advisors in Student Services serve as advisors for students who have not yet determined their academic major. Undecided students should work closely with their advisor in order to establish a set of goals for their academic program.
Students who have already chosen a major are assigned a faculty advisor in their major area as their advisor. This advisor's name will appear on the student's Degree Audit Reporting System report available for students to pick up during quarterly DARs Fests. Consult the quarterly schedule for advising dates.
The Degree Audit Reporting System is a tool to be used in conjunction with academic advising. DARS reports, published quarterly for each currently enrolled student, analyzes a student's degree requirements according to the catalog year in which he or she entered OU. The DARS report displays the courses from which a student may select in order to complete degree requirements and shows how the courses already taken apply toward those requirements. The DARS report allows a student to have an exact "snapshot" of where he or she stands in relation to graduation. More information and frequently asked questions about DARS can be found on the Office of the Registrar Web site.
