About Us

Diversify Your World ~ Your Campus is a campaign developed by the Office of the Dean of Students. We believe that college is a time to expand one's understanding of the world beyond past learning and current viewpoints. It is not a time to cling to the known, but a time to seek the unknown.

Most students come to Ohio University with a sense of the world, at least from one perspective. Once at OU students quickly settle into segments of the overall campus community, often based on past interests and involvements. Our hope is that each student can diversify their campus experience and overall worldview to expand their understanding of self and others.

When current OU students were asked what could be done to interest them in learning more about diversity (everything that isn't like you, no matter who you are), they said they needed opportunities and encouragement to spend time with others, to do things together and to get new information in a welcoming environment.

We have developed this campaign with those needs in mind. Our goals are to:

• Promote the idea that college is a time to learn outside the classroom, as well as inside, about oneself, one's culture, the cultures of many other peoples and the rewards of interacting with the rich diversity of communities.
• Create an engaging campaign with a symbol, message and activities that will come to be known across campus as the 'invitation to come here and go away richer.'
• Offer students an opportunity for inter-group dialogue and shared experiences focused on exploring cultural diversity in all its challenges and joys.
