Guidelines for Writing-Enriched Courses

A writing-enriched course embraces the following four principles.

  1. Writing is a philosophy, not a technique.
  2. Writing is a significant method students use for understanding and communicating course content.
  3. Instructors are committed to providing meaningful and timely feedback to students about their writing.
  4. Students are informed in a syllabus at the beginning of a course that it is writing enriched and that their writing is a significant part of their grade.

Approved by the Committee on Writing Across the Curriculum (CWAC) in September, 1998.
