Composition Exemption Exams
Students can opt to take waiver exams for first-year (e.g. ENG 151) and junior composition courses. Both exams are timed essays that will be administered by a proctor on a pre-announced day and time. On the day of the test, students will be given a short reading followed by a writing prompt.
The exams are offered early in fall, winter, and spring quarters. For more information, contact Melanie Lee at 597-1313.
Writing Tutoring
Writing tutoring is available at the Student Writing Center FREE of charge to all Ohio University students. You can make an appointment by clicking here or walk-in hours are also available (visit our website for hours). The SWC also offers online tutoring.
Online Writing Centers
There are many online writing centers available that offer handouts, helpful writing tips, and writing resources, such as MLA guidelines, dictionaries, and other reference works. Below is a list of our favorite writing centers:
