What are Paired/Linked Courses?

Paired/linked courses are types of learning communities in which twenty students are co-enrolled in a section of First-Year English and a large lecture course, such as Economics 103, Geology 101, or Chemistry 151. In linked courses the topics in both courses are generally thematically similar and students find that they better understand the material from both courses because they can see different sides of the same issues. In paired courses, the topics may be different but thematically similar.  Students discover that it is much easier to create study groups and form friendships with other students who are enrolled in thepairs/links. You can find more information about linked and paired courses by contacting University College at 593-1935. Students, please ask your pre-college advisor about paired/linked courses and other learning communities.
