International Women's Day

The International Women's Day Festival is an annually recurring event hosted by the Ohio University Women's Center.  Held on the Sunday closest to International Women's Day (March 8), this Festival provides an opportunity for OU students, faculty and staff, as well as members of the Athens community, to celebrate the past, present, and future accomplishments of women worldwide.

2008 Press Release:

The Ohio University Women’s Center will be hosting the International Women’s Day Festival on March 8, 2009 from 2-6 p.m. The festival will serve as a forum for all women to express themselves through artistic contribution while celebrating the accomplishments of women worldwide. The Festival will be held in Baker University Center Ballroom and all are invited to attend.

Please come out and enjoy a day of artistic expression as festival participants share their unique performances through dance, poetry, speeches, presentations and artwork. There will also be vendors and student and community organizations showcasing their work.

By hosting events such as the International Women’s Day Festival, Susanne Dietzel, director of Ohio University Women’s Center, noted that “these festivals speak to the core function of the Ohio University Women’s Center, which is to inform others about women, gender, and diversity in a local, national, and international context.” The Ohio University Women’s Center work also focuses on advocacy, consciousness raising, and reaching out to students, faculty, staff, and members of surrounding communities.
