New Website Request Information

PLEASE NOTE: If your student organization already has a web site, please fill in a work request by going to http://www.ohio.edu/oitech/ and clicking on "New Request" or by calling the Service Desk at 740.593.1222.

We offer two options for new student organization web pages.

Option 1 - CMS-hosted site

The primary advantage of choosing a CMS-hosted site is that you don't know have to know HTML, making it easier to maintain the site for you -- and your successor. You can learn more about using Ohio University's CMS, CommonSpot by checking out http://www.ohio.edu/orgs/

Should your organization chose to have a CMS-hosted website, here are a few things to keep in mind. Note that this service is currently provided free of charge.

  1. We will verify your organization is officially recognized by the university by checking the directory of student organizations.
  2. You need to provide the information requested in the checklist.
  3. Your organization’s advisor will be contacted to verify this is a legit request.
  4. We will build the site as quickly as possible. We support a significant majority of the University's web presence, so it may take several business days to get your site built.
  5. The site will be built to look like the site used by the checklist in item two.
  6. Also, be aware of the rules for student org websites.
  7. If we build your site, and you do not put content in the site and request for it to be launched within 10 business days, your site will be deleted. Furthermore, the organization will not be permitted to have another CMS-hosted website for the remainder of the academic year. (You could still request a static-page website.)
  8. If you understand the previous steps, complete the form located on this page to get started, including the information requested in the checklist.
  9. Check your email! Updates and responses to your request will be sent to your email account.

Option 2- Static Web Site

The primary advantage of this option is that you can make the site look however you want, as long as you follow the rules for student org websites. You can learn more about using the Static-Page Front Door server by starting at http://www.ohio.edu/oit/webservices/static/. Caveat: your successor will need to know how to code in HTML to continue to maintain the site.

  1. We will verify your organization is officially recognized by the university by checking the directory of student organizations.
  2. Your organization’s advisor (as listed in the directory) will be contacted to verify this is a legit request.
  3. If you understand the previous two steps, complete the form located on this page to get started.
  4. Check your email! Updates and responses to your request will be sent to your email account.
