The Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs is currently hiring for the following position:
The successful candidate will assist with designing and executing field and lab experiments to assess the greenhouse gas flux and energy potential of alternative bioenergy systems. Data collection and analysis will include sampling of soil, plants, water, and gases. Individual will also engage in work to improve mechanistic models of ecosystem processes. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and maintaining laboratory equipment and protocols, training graduate students, and assisting with grant proposal preparation.
Minimum: Ph.D. in ecology, biogeochemistry, environmental biology, or similar field by the time of application. At least three (3) years of experience in a related field is required.
Preferred: Experience conducting independent research on ecosystem-scale questions; Experience with field and laboratory protocols for measuring greenhouse gas fluxes from soil; Training in and working knowledge of methanogenic processes, responses of methanogenesis to environmental variables, and anaerobic digestion; Experience operating and maintaining a gas chromatograph with multiple columns (preferably Bruker daltonics model); Experience designing, building and maintaining custom equipment; Experience working with interdisciplinary teams. Excellent communication and writing skills are a must. Demonstrated success with peer-reviewed publication and attracting grant funding is preferred.
