Director of Marketing and Communications

Ohio University’s Voinovich School invites applications for a Director of Marketing and Communications. We seek an individual with a proven record to oversee all activities related to conceptualizing and implementing marketing and communications strategy to reach the School’s target markets across our core businesses. This individual will work closely with the Dean and school leadership to support and direct strategy and direction. He or she will analyze and develop solutions for various websites and e-commerce systems to better position the School and will continue to grow and expand efforts to effectively position the School as a regional and national player.

This individual will serve as the proactive brand champion for the Voinovich School as well as the communications link between the School and the media. The qualified candidate will have experience driving online marketing and communications programs including email marketing, online advertising and social media, as well as experience with content development and search optimization. He or she will possess a high level of innovation and remain connected to the pulse of the marketing and communications industry trends in regards to higher education.

Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, communications, public relations or a related field.  At least six years of experience in marketing, communications, or a related field At least 3 years of management experience.

Preferred qualifications: Master’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations or a related field.

Director of Public and Social Innovation

Ohio University invites nominations and applications for the Directorship of its new Center for Public and Social Innovation within the Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs. We seek a self-motivated individual with the vision, passion and collaborative leadership qualities to shape and grow this multidisciplinary Center created by the Ohio University Board of Trustees. This executive level position provides a unique opportunity to launch and manage a respected center that will have the staff and financial resources to undertake high-impact, innovative projects related to public policy and public management.

We invite applicants from academia, government, the nonprofit world or the private sector. Candidates should have an expertise in public and social innovation and a prominent, demonstrated record of accomplishment through research or initiatives resulting in significant social impact. The founding director, with strong backing from Ohio University’s top leadership, will expand existing collaborations with outside entities like foundations and an array of social and public organizations across Ohio and beyond. The successful candidate, working within a dynamic Voinovich School and cross-campus innovation environment, will help create a social innovation fund and will have a broad mandate to originate social innovation programs and projects, including those offering experiential learning opportunities, that address important critical challenges facing the region, the nation and the world.

The individual will hold either a non-faculty or a faculty position in the Voinovich School. Faculty rank, with or without tenure, will be based on professional accomplishments and academic credentials. A Ph.D. or terminal degree is required for faculty rank with tenure. Faculty appointments are year-round (rather than for the 9-month academic year).

The individual will be responsible for growing the Center. This will include envisioning and establishing projects, as well as building connections with relevant partners within the School, the field and the community. The individual will help lead the development of new certificates and assist in the development and redesign of the Voinovich School and University undergraduate and graduate academic and executive programs that promote public and social innovation with other colleges at Ohio University.

Senior Manager, Financial Services

This position will work on a leadership team responsible for the management of all financial transactions at the Voinovich School.

Primary responsibilities include providing a wide range of accounting and financial management duties which will include reviewing new grant awards and contracts for billing and financial reporting requirements; preparing financial reports; coordinating financial processes; assisting in budget projections and expenditures; assisting in the development of internal budget projections; preparing financial reports; managing payroll distribution to grant accounts; and administering policies and procedures for effective fiscal control.

Potential candidates must possess the ability to manage a select group of professionals with a diverse set of skills and to relate to a wide diversity of faculty, staff, students and community members. This position also supervises student and financial administrative workers.

Venture Executive in Residence



TechGROWTH Ohio, a State-sponsored venture development grant through Ohio University that operates in the 20 counties of SE Ohio, is seeking applicants for multiple openings as a Venture Development Executive in Residence (Venture EIR). The position prepares technology-based start-ups for rapid commercialization, including intensive corporate growth advice and guidance toward pre-seed venture capital funding (when relevant to client needs). The Venture EIR supervises client company growth, leads staff, and mentors project teams to provide intensive, high quality management, strategic and technical consulting services to entrepreneurs and early-stage startups throughout Appalachian Ohio.

The Venture EIR is an autonomous executive-level staffer under the direct supervision of the TechGROWTH Executive Director. The Venture EIR often focuses services in one institutional partner or industry sector, but attends EIR collaborative meetings and joins other client assistance teams as relevant to the EIR’s specialty skills and client needs.

The Venture EIR must have the high level education and corporate and venture-context experience to direct client companies toward growth. The Venture EIR:

•Advises TechGROWTH staff, the Executive Director, and the TechGROWTH Fund LLC Investment Committee of the advisability of investment
•Oversees the performance of pre-seed portfolio corporate clients
•Ensures post-investment portfolio company development, preparation for and acquisition of follow-on venture investment
•Guides client companies to successful exits and return on investment.

ESP Financial Coordinator


This position is responsible for fulfilling daily financial transactions and maintaining financial records in relation to the Entrepreneurial Signature Program (ESP) State of Ohio funded grant program. This position will work with the ESP Director, ESP grant staff, Voinovich School Administrative and Finance Team staff as well as Ohio University Grants and Contracts Accounting staff to carry out responsibilities in a manner consistent with the management of other grant programs at the Voinovich School. The financial transactions will involve activities such as tracking staff work hours, payroll, and travel, paying sub-contractors and consultant invoices, managing consultant purchase orders for services, paying for supplies and other materials needed to fulfill the grant program plus tracking and managing cost share requirements of the grant. The ESP grant is a multi-million dollar project with high visibility and a goal of creating sustainable and scalable business ventures for organizations with the potential for accessing equity funding.
