Voinovich School Receives Partnership Award
November 16, 2012
Ohio University's Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs received the Sustainable Partner Award from Rural Action at their November breakfast on November 16. Rural Action, a nonprofit organization that works with communities to build sustainable development projects in rural Appalachia, has worked with members of the Voinovich School on a variety of initiatives. Dr. Geoff Dabelko, Director of the Masters of Science in Environmental Studies program, accepted the award on behalf of the Voinovich School.
The Sustainable Partner Award recognizes the long history of collaboration between Rural Action and the Voinovich School, which began when the School was known as the Institute for local Government Administration and Rural Development (ILGARD). Currently, members of the Voinovich School are working with Rural Action on its Appalachia Ohio Zero Waste Initiative, which collaborates with local communities in an effort to encourage a zero waste economy.
Scott Miller was in a unique position when he presented this award on behalf of Rural Action. Miller is on the board for Rural Action, but he is also a senior leader at the Voinovich School, direction the Consortium for Energy, Economics, and the Environment. In his presentation speech, Miller noted that the partnership between Rural Action and the Voinovich School has allowed both organizations greater opportunities to achieve their goals.
