Nearly 400 people attended a fundraiser for the Raccoon Creek Partnership at Uncle Buck's Riding Stable on September 20, 2012. The event included canoeing on Lake Hope and performances by Athens bluegrass group The Rarely Herd and Columbus bluesman Willie Phoenix.
The proceeds from the fundraiser will be used to support the printing and distribution of Karla Sanders' map of the Raccoon Creek Water Trail. Sanders, a Master's of Science and Environmental Studies student at Ohio University's Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs, created the map last year as part of her work with the Raccoon Creek Partnership. Sanders' map includes public access points along the creek, as well as historical locations, information about the fish and wildlife that depend upon the creek, and sites of acid mine drainage treatment and reclamation.
The fundraiser brought in about $1,100 for the RCP. With the help of this and other fundraisers, the RCP is more than halfway to meeting its goal of $5,000.
Sanders' map can be viewed at the Raccoon Creek Partnership website at www.raccooncreek.org, where you can also donate to the project. You can also view the map project in progress as created by Sanders online at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Dnzic555Bk&feature=plcp
