Opportunity to voice preferences on the future of the PORTS Facility
July 15, 2011
Ohio University's PORTSfuture project has engaged hundreds of community members from Pike, Jackson, Ross, and Scioto counties to create a vision for the future of the Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant (PORTS) facility in Piketon, Ohio.
Nine possible "future use" scenarios are the result of a series of visioning and advisory meetings that were held across the region earlier this year. The scenario summary information and potential economic impact on the surrounding communities have been combined with a voting ballot on the PortsFuture website: www.portsfuture.com.
Residents of the four-county area are invited to review the information and complete a brief on-line survey to indicate their preferences. Up to three scenarios may be selected by each respondent. The survey can be completed in 10-12 minutes and all answers are confidential.
At the end of the balloting, a report will be compiled that describes all the scenarios developed by community members along with the preference responses. This report will be submitted to the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Environmental Management for their consideration as they make clean-up and risk reduction decisions about the site.
