CAREER SERVICES HELPS STUDENTS All students are encouraged to attend the Winter Career Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on February 5, in the Baker University Center Ballroom. Those interested in working in education may attend the Teacher Recruitment Consortium, held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 16 in the Convocation Center.
Attending career fairs is an excellent way for students to meet recruiters and learn about internships and jobs. Career Services advises students to research attending organizations, dress professionally, bring copies of résumés to give employers and to remember that first impressions are very important.
Students wanting a practice interview before their real interview should schedule a mock interview with Career Services. Interviews are recorded so that students can have their interviews saved to a DVD for future reference.
Career Services offers many ways to help students as they explore career options and begin their job searches. FOCUS helps students learn about career options based on their personal attributes. The VAULT® Online Career Library allows students to view a large amount of career-related resources including career and industry guidebooks, employer and occupation profiles, industry overviews, career advice articles and more. CareerSearch® helps connect majors with careers. It is a large database, of more than 4.2 million organizations, providing contact names, addresses, phone numbers and other employer background information.
Career Services also provides seminars including Résumé Writing, Basic Interviewing, Exploring Majors and Careers, Planning for Graduate School, Advanced Interviewing, Career Search Strategies, Business Etiquette and Career Fair Etiquette.
