TEACHER EDUCATION INSTRUCTOR NAMED ASSISTANT DEAN
MAUREEN EVANS COON

Maureen Evans Coon

ATHENS, Ohio – Maureen Evans Coon, instructor and field experience coordinator at the Ohio University College of Education, has accepted the position of Assistant Dean for Student Affairs and Academic Advising at the College.

An OHIO alumna, Coon brings to the Dean’s Office first-hand experience teaching in Ohio’s public school system. She will also draw on her extensive classroom experience with first-year, preservice teachers to direct the College’s student advising. Dean Renée A. Middleton says, “Maureen has a proven track record in supervising personnel, developing and administering budgets, and overseeing grant and contract implementation.”

In her new position, Coon will oversee the offices of Student Services, Student Teaching, and Student Recruitment and Retention. She will represent the Dean’s Office in the College’s strategic planning to enhance its Curriculum and Technology Center. She will also serve as the College of Education’s representative on Ohio University’s Assistant Dean’s Council and the University Human Resources Advisory Council.

“The Student Services staff is a highly motivated group,” Coon says. “Together we will work to make the office a model of what student services in higher education can and should be.”
Coon, who earned her master’s in educational administration while teaching at Federal Hocking Local Schools in Amesville, has also designed curricula and taught at Marietta’s Washington State Community College and the former Orient Development Center in Pickaway County.

She assumed her new responsibilities Dec. 1, 2006.
