Regional Campus News: Ohio University Lancaster

Lancaster --- “New” is the operative word at Ohio University Lancaster Campus.

•A new dean for the Campus

A ‘new and improved front door’
•A new conference and community events center
     •A new baccalaureate degree

Faculty and staff at the Lancaster Campus will welcome Dr. MaryAnn Janosik as their new leader on February 1. An Ohio native, Janosik recently served as Dean of Social Sciences and Business at Oakton Community College, Des Plaines, IL.

Work will begin this spring on a ‘new front door’ that will involve reorienting the focus of Brasee Hall from the original entrance facing SR 37 to the north parking lot. The renovated two-level area will feature an Information Desk, new theatre doors, new entrance to the Hannah V. McCauley Library, gymnasium access, and a coffee shop and lounge areas for students. The bookstore also will move to new retail space at the entrance. The project will cost just over $1 million and will be funded by capital appropriations. Phase Two, which originally was included in the project, features a connector which will join Herrold Hall to Brasee Hall and will cost an estimated $850,000.
Fundraising for a community events center and field house continues, according to Dr. John Furlow, Associate Dean. A recent $500,000 commitment in federal funding and private donations are helping the Campus reach the $7 million goal. The center, which will be constructed next to Brasee Hall, will seat 2,500 guests and house conference rooms, locker rooms, as well as facilities for catering and business and industry training. (Read more about these projects in the current edition of Ohio Today, page 8.)

Lancaster Campus faculty and staff eagerly anticipate following Southern Campus’s lead in offering the Bachelor of Technical and Applied Studies (BTAS). The BTAS, offered through Regional Higher Education, creates a new bachelor’s degree opportunity for students who have completed two-year degrees at accredited community colleges, regional campuses, or technical colleges.
