Even with an increasing number of “super-seniors” taking five or more years to graduate, students often overlook the value of taking summer classes. Ohio University Summer Sessions is the smart way to spend the summer and earn up to a quarter of credit.
For students who have transferred from another university or changed majors and are no longer on a four-year track, Summer Sessions can help them to catch up and graduate sooner. It is also a good idea for students doing internships or co-ops during the fall, winter, or spring quarters, allowing them to take time off during the regular school year and not fall behind on credits.
Summer Sessions has no priority registration and is a good way for students to get into classes that they were unable to register for during the regular school year. Additionally, many, Tier II and Tier III classes are offered, helping students to fill their general requirements.
Many students go home for the summer to work or because they do not have a place to live in Athens. While subletting is always an option, those who do go home can also take advantage of Summer Sessions. Five regional campuses and OU Online allow students to take classes from almost anywhere.
Students who have participated in Summer Sessions look back positively on their experiences. The more relaxed atmosphere of Athensin the summer, getting classes out of the way, smaller classes, and a closer relationship with professors and classmates were among the things surveyed students liked most.
Summer Sessions offers two five-week sessions: June 19- July 21, 2006 and July 24- August 25, 2006. Students can attend one or both sessions and earn up to a full quarter of credit. For more information about Ohio University Summer Sessions, go to www.ohio.edu/summer/. It’s a bright idea!
