Your Ohio, Year One – www.ohioyo.com - is a website for first-year students designed to extend the orientation process through the first year using articles about making the transition to Ohio University, interactive surveys, one-stop shopping for answers to
frequently asked questions, information about local dining and shopping options, and opportunities to create peer networks. Students received an e-mail with an embedded link informing them of the site the week before school opening. Reminder e-mails follow through the academic year.
Your Ohio, Year One’s five modules include:
Articles
The Articles feature changes as the academic calendar moves forward. Topics available now include: Ohio History and Traditions, Academic Expectations, Orientation Revisited, and Sharing Your Space. Future articles include Study Tips: Preparing for Test and Exams, Thinking About Your Major, and Preparing for Summer.
Interactives
This module offers interactive features where students can learn valuable information about important topics—while taking interactive quizzes and testing their knowledge. Interactives include topics like Academic and Thinking Skills, Personal Development, Personal Health, Getting Involved, and Relationships.
UScene
This feature is a one-stop guide to the places to go and things to do around campus. Students can discover the best places to study, meet people, grab a bite or get in shape, and can find restaurants, cultural activities and more - rated and reviewed by their peers.
UPeers
Similar to Face Book, UPeers is a monitored space where students can find people with similar interests and send messages to make connections and or engage in a discussion.
Ask Ohio
Here, students can pose a question to one of the 35 listed offices. Queries are forwarded via e-mail for response. The site includes the capability to describe the demographics of students querying the various offices, thus allowing offices to focus responses to common queries to particular groups.
