Promoting OHIO’s Programs to Elevate the Brand

Every year, University Communications and Marketing (UCM) manages efforts that advance Ohio University’s standing among the premier institutions of higher education. This calendar highlights a few of our most recent projects.

Every day, our team members operate as:

  • Collaborators, working with others to feature remarkable achievements of OHIO students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
  • Promoters, showcasing the University’s excellence to enhance the national profile of Ohio University and its programs.
  • Creators, generating ideas, services, and products to capture the vibrant, picturesque atmosphere of our campus.
  • Mentors, preparing students to become the next generation of OHIO brand representatives.
University-wide Branding Initiative
University-wide Branding Initiative

UCM created OHIO’s it’s y{ }u™ recruitment campaign and related television commercials; print, radio, and Web ads; and an admissions microsite to support the promotional effort. Part of an overall rebranding initiative, its core themes are “Love at First Sight,” “Home Away from Home,” “Supportive Professors,” and “Bobcat Pride.” The campaign is truly for OHIO and by OHIO, as UCM staff collaborated with students and alumni on key elements that helped to make this major initiative a success. Monthly Experts and Compass Report

Designed with deans and communicators in mind, UCM produces a monthly college-specific report that spotlights faculty members in the local and national news and Compass stories pertaining to each college. These reports provide transparent data on the success of the collaborative efforts of campus communicators and the UCM team, as well as tools such as the online Experts Directory. These combined efforts raise the profile of not only OHIO but also its individual colleges and campuses. Learn more

Making the Difference Compass Series
Making the Difference Compass Series

Compass, Ohio University’s source for news and information administered by UCM’s Internal Communications Team, includes “Making the Difference,” an employee spotlight series highlighting the significant contributions OHIO staff and faculty are making—on campus, in the community, in their fields, and around the world. Its aim is the recruitment, retention, and engagement of OHIO faculty and staff. Six articles were published in 2013–14, and the series will continue in 2014–15. Learn more

Internal/External Communications Report

UCM recently combined External Communications and Internal Communications (Compass) data into an at-a-glance snapshot of information. This report chronicles mentions in local and national media, highlights faculty in the news, and quantifies top OHIO news stories. New to this annual report is data illustrating the ever-growing impact of social media and digital technology, as well as Compass’s college/unit-specific insights such as share of voice and specific readership data for executive messaging. Economic Impact Report
Economic Impact Report

This project underscores the many positive effects of $1.5 billion in Ohio University-related economic activity for an audience of significant stakeholders ranging from governmental leaders to the general public. Based on content provided by the client,UCM designed the report and a website so that key facts were highlighted in easily scannable “pullout” columns throughout the book. This project also enabled a student designer to gain résumé-building experience while working under the supervision of UCM professional staff. Learn more

E-greetings and Social Media Graphics

UCM helped bolster Bobcat pride by creating OHIO-themed electronic greetings as well as a variety of graphics that promote the University’s brand for use on social media pages including Facebook®, Twitter®, and Google+®. Additional e-greetings celebrate OHIO’s campus beauty and Commencement. Learn more
