Ohio University issues statement concerning evacuation at West Union Street Office Center

At approximately 11:18 a.m. today, an Ohio University employee opened an envelope received in the mail that contained a white, powdery substance. As a precaution, the Ohio University Police Department (OUPD) quickly evacuated the Legal Affairs and People's Bank sections of the West Union Street Office Center and took other steps to isolate the potentially affected area. OUPD does not believe other areas of the WUSOC building are affected at this time. OUPD is working with the appropriate authorities for assistance in identifying the powder and sender of the letter. At this time police believe this to be an isolated incident and no further action is needed at this time by Ohio University faculty, staff and students. No other details are being released at this time.
