Governor John R. Kasich has appointed N. Victor Goodman, of Columbus, to the Ohio University Board of Trustees.

An alumnus of Yale University and Harvard University Law School, Goodman is a partner in the law firm Benesch, Friedlander, Coplan and Aronoff in Columbus. He previously served as partner in the law firm of Topper, Alloway, Goodman, DeLeone and Duffey, also in Columbus.

A long-standing supporter of Ohio University, Goodman previously served as a member of the institution's Board of Trustees from 1994-2001 and two terms with the Ohio University Foundation Board of Trustees during 2001-2010. In 2004, OHIO presented Goodman with an honorary Doctor of Public Service degree.

"I am excited to return to Ohio's Board where I have the opportunity to be a part of the University's Promise of providing educational excellence for Ohio's students," Goodman said.

Throughout his career, Goodman has been the recipient of many prestigious awards and appointments, including having been appointed to the Federal Service Impasses Panel by President Ronald Reagan in 1982, and reappointed in 1992 by President George H.W. Bush; receiving the Miami University Presidential Medal and being the recipient of the 1991 Columbus Bar Association Community Service Award.

A dedicated advocate of higher education, Goodman served as Vice Chair of the state's higher education governing board, the Ohio Board of Regents; a member of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation; the Commission on Higher Education and Economy; Chair of the Ohio Board of Regents Managing for the Future Task Force for Higher Education and a Fellow with The College of Labor and Employment Lawyers, among others.

His term with the OHIO Board of Trustees begins this month through May 2020. Goodman will join fellow board members at the next official meeting in April at the main campus in Athens. Goodman and his wife, Elaine, reside in New Albany and have four grown children, the youngest, David, is the Director of Commerce for the State of Ohio.
