Residence Hall Network Registration Requirement Postponed

April 2, 2008
by Sean O'Malley

Based on internal testing results, the Office of Information Technology has decided to postpone requiring network device registration for OHIO's residence hall wired network.  Originally announced during Winter '08, the service would have required individuals to register computers, laptops and other network devices before browsing the Internet.

Testing revealed a need for additional network systems capacity.  OIT's long term plan is to require full network authentication, similar to what currently is enforced on the OHIO wireless network.  Additional information will be available later this month on whether OIT will upgrade its network operations and continue pursuing network registration or just move forward with full authentication.
