OIT helps faculty engage students with technology
November 20, 2008 - On November 5 and 6, the Office of Information Technology (OIT) and the Faculty Commons hosted “Engaging Students with Technology” for faculty on the Athens and regional campuses. The half day event, presented at different times each day to accommodate faculty schedules, took a detailed look at technology resources available to faculty, with a focus on Blackboard 7.3.

Novell replacement moves forward October 27, 2008 - OIT has begun work to replace its Novell network file storage system with and Active Directory based solution. Technicians will visit every Novell user in the coming weeks to move personal data to the new storage system.

Blackboard 7.3 pilot faculty endorse upgrade October 20, 2008 - In a Spring 2008 survey of Blackboard 7.3 pilot participants, faculty and students expressed support for upgrading. When asked if the university should upgrade to version 7.3, 90 percent of pilot faculty answered "Yes."

OIT's DiPietro named Classfied Employee of the Month September 26, 2008 - Classified Senate has named OIT customer support services employee Joe DiPietro September's Classified Employee of the Month.

HDL front office to close July 1 - Baker Center Tech Depot to open July 2 June 30, 2008 - The 154 HDL Center front office will close on July 1 and reopen in its new location, 112 Baker Center, on July 2.

Printing fees to change on July 1, 2008
May 26, 2008 - Beginning on July 1, students will pay a flat three cents per page for printing black and white 8.5” X 11” pages in the Library, Baker Center and the CSC computer labs. All printing fees will be charged to the student’s bursar’s account. This change in fees was approved by the University Student Fees Committee and the Board of Trustees.

Email scams get smarter - imitate OHIO's webmail login screen
May 20, 2008 - Email scammers targeting OHIO students, faculty and staff have taken their tactics to a new level in recent days, using counterfeit web links in an effort to fool recipients into disclosing their usernames and passwords.

Spring <BR> web development conference coming to Baker Center on June 3
May 9, 2008 - On June 3, the Office of Information Technology will host the sixth annual “Spring 〈BR〉” web development conference in Baker Center. Faculty, staff and students with an interest in web design are welcome to attend this one day event.

Avoid a blocked account - Don't reply to email scams
May 7, 2008 - If you receive a message asking for your email username and password, do not reply. Instead, forward that message to the OIT Service Desk at servicedesk@ohio.edu.

Storage Upgrade Promises Larger Quotas, Better Reliability
April 30, 2008 - This weekend, OIT staff and engineers from disk array manufacturer EMC will install a massive storage array in the university's data center. Once online, the new array will facilitate expanded quotas, improved system reliability, and the consolidation of individual servers.
