Sustainability Workshops, Fall 2013

Faculty are invited to bring entire classes and Resident Assistants are invited to bring entire floors to one or both of the following Service Learning events offered in Fall 2013, in collaboration with the Common Experience Project on Sustainability.

Option 1: September 28, 10am-2pm, Blue Rock Station Service Learning Event

Participants of this work day will engage with staff of Blue Rock Station to learn about the sustainable business practices utilized at this premier green living center.  Blue Rock Station will lead lively discussions about the sustainable business practices used in their efforts and the potential influences of “free energy.”  Participants of this work day will assist in a roadside clean-up and learn how to use these “discarded” items in meaningful ways.  Light lunch and travel provided.    Please RSVP via the form below.

Option 2: October 1 and 2, 10am-3pm (various time slots), Energy Conservation Service Learning Event

Office of Sustainability, in partnership with Corporation for Ohio Appalachian Development (COAD), United Appeal and the Sugar Bush Foundation, will be offering free energy workshops and service learning experiences for OHIO and Hocking College classes on October 1 and October 2.

Sessions will take place at United Appeal (469 Richland Ave, Athens) and will include a short lesson on sustainability, sustainable business practices (regardless of discipline) and energy conservation.  Participants will then learn various energy conservation techniques from COAD through hands-on workshops on-site.  Each presentation and/or workshop will be tailored to each class' course objectives.

Workshops can occur throughout the day and will be scheduled according to interested faculty members' needs.  Transportation to/from United Appeal/Athens campus will be provided by the Office of Sustainability (Regional Campuses and Hocking College participants can work with the office to create alternative transportation accommodations).  All participants will leave the workshops with the tools and resources necessary to implement similar conservation projects in their own homes.

These sessions are ideal for all faculty members, whether or not they are active participants in OHIO's Common Experience Project on Sustainability.  If you are a faculty member interested in engaging your students in this opportunity, please complete the interest form below.  You'll receive a personal follow-up email from the Office of Sustainability with more information and to schedule your class' workshop, if desired.  Completion of this form does not commit you to any session.  Though, faculty who complete the form will be given priority placement in sign-up.  Please complete one form per class/group you wish you schedule.

Workshops are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis.  Space is limited.

Please list the skills, information or resources you hope your students will gain from this experience. Write "N/A" if unsure.
