As a leader in sustainability in higher education, Ohio University engages in annual reporting to a variety of external entities. Additionally, we actively seek external awards and grant funding, as needed. Highlights of this year's efforts in reporting, funding and recognition are offered below:
As a signatory to the American College and University Presidents' Climate Commitment (ACUPCC), Ohio University has committed to being a carbon neutral campus by the year 2075. In an effort to stay compliant with that goal, the university submits annual greenhouse gas (GHG) reports to ACUPCC. These GHG reports are publicly available online to offer transparency in our carbon neutrality efforts.
Ohio University was recognized as a "Green College" in Princeton Review's 2012 Green Guide.
Highlights of reporting this year included:
- All new buildings and major renovations over $1 million at OU are required to obtain LEED Silver standards/certification.
- A focus on the university's in-vessel compost system; the largest of its kind in the nation.
- Multiple student involvement opportunities as they relate to sustainability.
