To ensure that we are promoting the requirements of the Sustainability Plan and Climate Action Plan in our own efforts and across campus, the four sub-categories of SOUL were developed, dividing the topics evenly into comprehensive groups. The four sub-categories are as follows:
Benchmarks 1*- 4, 12, 19, 21, 25, 29
Addresses issues of greenhouse gas reduction, renewable energy, building energy efficiency, sustainable investing, and environmental purchasing.
*The Climate Action Plan goals are housed within Benchmark 1
Benchmarks 5, 7, 15, 20, 24, 30 - 32, 34
Addresses issues of recycling, composting, dining education, material reduction, and surplus food donations.
Benchmarks 6, 8 - 11, 22, 23, 35
Addresses issues of sustainability literacy, curriculum and degree programs, fundraising and capital campaigns, behavior change, and sustainability research.
Benchmarks 13, 14, 16 - 18, 26 - 28, 33
Addresses issues of land and resource management, parking and transportation, local food purchasing, and water and irrigation systems.
Each sub-group has within it approximately 9 benchmarks, which are grouped according to category and, thus, more easily tracked and managed. Within each benchmark, there are a varying number if initiatives we conduct and promote in order to ensure that we are reaching the goals of said benchmark. To learn more about these initiatives as well as corresponding data, follow the links above or find them within the Campus Initiatives tab.
