ATTENTION STUDENTS: Applications are now being accepted for student members of the newly formed President's Advisory Council on Sustainability Planning.
The Council is charged with the development of a recommendation for a comprehensive sustainability plan by the fall of 2010 in accordance with Vision OHIO and the American College and University Presidents' Climate Commitment. This plan will include recommendations for prioritized goals and strategies for each of the following targeted areas: Academics & Curriculum, Low and No Cost Energy Conservation, Dining, Transportation, Procurement, Energy Infrastructure/Utilities, Fundraising & Endowment, Buildings & Grounds. A secondary responsibility of the Council is to ensure the creation of a Climate Action Plan by the fall of 2009.
The Council will submit its recommendations to the President, the Executive Vice President and Provost and the Senior Vice President, Finance & Administration who will take such further action on the recommendations as they deem appropriate.
The council will meet at least monthly, with the first meeting scheduled for Tuesday, July 21st from 9-11 am in the first floor conference room at Cutler Hall. Student members who are not able to attend the meeting in person will be included via teleconference.
Three (3) student members will be selected to serve. A university-wide call for participation by graduate and undergraduate students is being used to solicit applicants.
Students applicants should be prepared to serve for a minimum of one year, from July 2009 - June 2010. Meetings will be held at least monthly with some work being performed outside of Council meetings. Members should expect to commit at least two hours per week on average outside of regularly scheduled meetings to the work of the Council.
Student members of the President's Advisory Council on Sustainability will be selected based on a competitive application process administered by the Office of Sustainability. All student members shall be professionally knowledgeable about campus sustainability efforts, and the council shall be formulated so as to be collectively knowledgeable about the total scope of sustainability at the University. All members of the Council, including chairs, faculty, staff and students, are appointed by the President.
