The Russ College of Engineering and Technology
In addition to offering a wide range of engineering and technology degrees, the Russ College of Engineering and Technology also houses two centers that work towards improving environmental quality: the Center for Air Quality and the Ohio Coal Research Center.
The Ohio Coal Research Center is involved in air pollution monitoring, watershed restoration efforts, economic development and promoting the health of the environment. Their main focus is to maintain the nation's fuel diversity with the production of environmentally safe and reliable electric power. In order to do so, the center creates new technologies for the clean use of coal in existing power plants, and develops more efficient ways to convert coal to electricity, liquid fuels, and biofuels. In addition to its work at Ohio University, the center is also the leader of Ohio's Coal Research Consortium and part of Ohio U's CE3.
Consortium for Energy, Economics and the Environment
The Consortium for Energy, Economics and the Environment (CE3) was formed at Ohio University in 2005 to facilitate innovative applied research related to increasing Ohio's investment in energy, the environment and our economic future. Visit their website for information about air pollution-reduction technology, and clean coal research.

A water fountain recently installed at Ohio University's Baker Center has reportedly saved 6,673 plastic water bottles from going to waste. The Elkay EZH20 fountain produces filtered water and has a tracker that informs users of the current total number of water bottles conserved since its installation during winter break. Located on the third floor of Baker, the water fountain features a standard drinking spout as well as a space for users to refill their personal water bottles The new fountain is another effort to maintain a sustainable university, according to an OU official. "People are pretty savvy about staying hydrated… and also the idea that you're potentially saving water bottles from the landfill," said Sujit Chemburkar, executive director of event services at Baker Center.
