ResChallenge 2009
Conserve energy. Reduce emissions. Save the planet.
Jan 19th - March 9th
It’s that time of year again…Residence Challenge is upon us! Rally your hall to reduce energy consumption and win an all expenses paid trip to Cedar Point! For the next seven weeks, Ohio University residence hall participants will compete to reduce energy consumption.
Students from the top energy-conserving halls from each green will be rewarded with an all expenses paid trip to Cedar Point on May 10 or 17, 2009!
You can guarantee yourself a spot on the trip if your hall wins by participating in energy conservation activities. Make conscientious decisions such as turning off air conditioners or using the “fan” mode, turning off computers when not in use, and flipping off light switches when you leave a room, you will be able to reduce energy use while preserving natural resources and cutting costs.
Why target residence halls?
• Consuming resources 24/7
• 97.8% of students agree with the statement, “OU should conserve energy.”
• Students often don't know how!
• 50% of students still feel it is their right to consume as many resources as they want.
• Opportunities for partnering with Res Life.

What can you do to reduce your energy consumption?
Three easy, targeted energy actions:
1. Shut down your computer after use. For more green computing tips, check out the Green PC Guide.
2. Turn off your A/C or use the "fan" mode. Many residence halls are overheated during the winter; make sure to turn your A/C to "fan" mode if your window does not open.
3. Use surge protectors to regulate and reduce electricity use.
