Abstract
Representing sports in contemporary African art: Global flows through Pan-Africanism, Transnationalism, and Colonialism
Representations of sports in artworks by Julie Mehretu, Kwesi Owusu-Ankomah, and Yinka Shonibare express national identity, transnational flows, and colonial networks. A linking of the three artists’ works illustrates a complex and cyclical trajectory of politics of globalization as exemplified in the sports world.
