A Place For You!

Whether you are a first time college student, an adult wanting to take evening or online courses, or a transfer student from another institution, Ohio University Southern is the place for you.

As a regional campus of Ohio University, our students have access to academic degree programs that help prepare them for the future.

Affordable tuition and a friendly student-centered campus make us a perfect fit for students of all ages. Small class sizes assure that you will receive personal instruction from our accomplished faculty and have opportunities to connect with other students.

The First-Year Experience

We want to make your first year at OUS an outstanding one. First-year students may participate in learning communities to help them transition to college life.

Each community consists of two linked courses sharing a common theme. Students take these courses with other freshmen to have the opportunity to share ideas and build friendships as they become acclimated to the campus.

Road trips to Athens for football and basketball games, cultural and social events, and concerts are just a few of the special events planned for first-year students.

Academic and social opportunities for first-year students focus on increasing academic success. Courses are available on academic planning, motivation, test taking, time management, study skills, leadership skills, and utilizing computer resources.

Get Involved!

Interested in joining a club or starting one? Let us know. There are a variety of student organizations and clubs for different majors or interests. Want to perform music at a Brown Bag Concert, publish your writing, snow ski, or play intramural sports? You can do that and more at Ohio University Southern.

Get Connected!

The best way to get connected is to stay involved, and there are plenty of opportunities to do just that at OUS. From block parties and other campus events to free weekly concerts, there are a variety of activities and clubs to join at the Ironton Campus and Proctorville Center.

Academic Programs

Selecting a major is one of the most important choices you will make in determining your career path. Whether you want to work in healthcare or are ready to climb the corporate ladder, there are many degree choices for you at OUS. The degrees listed can be completed entirely on the OUS campus.

Factors to consider when selecting a degree:

What type of careers interest you?
Why do you want this major?
What are the requirements for this major?
What is the earning potential for this major?
What employment opportunities are available for this major?

Career counseling is available at our Learning, Assessment, and Career Resource Center.

Faculty

We have outstanding faculty at the Southern campus. You will find our faculty to be engaged in their academic areas. They are instructors, researchers, and authors who publish and present nationally and internationally. They engage students and give them opportunities to present their work at the national level.

Proctorville Center

Students also take classes at our Proctorville Center, located in eastern Lawrence County across the bridge from Huntington, West Virginia.  Day, evening, weekend, and online classes are available for working students or those with busy schedules.

The Proctorville Center is an excellent choice for students seeking quality instruction and affordable tuition. A variety of classes are offered at the Proctorville location. Many students elect to take general education classes at the Center due to the convenient location.

Ohio Horse Park

The 180-acre Ohio Horse Park is a center of learning for our equine students and the general public. Academic classes, including a teaching veterinary clinic, horse camps, sanctioned horse shows, and therapeutic riding sessions are offered at the location. The Park also is home to the OUS Equestrian Team that competes in local, regional, national, and intercollegiate events.

Therapeutic Riding Center

The Center for Therapeutic Riding is a PATH International Premier Center. The program offers equine-assisted therapies for children, teenagers, adults, and veterans with physical, cognitive, and emotional disabilities.

Child Development Center

For a fee, childcare is available for OUS students through a partnership with the Lawrence County Early Childhood Academy. The Center is located only 1.8 miles from Ohio University Southern.

Nature Center

Faculty and staff at the OUS Nature Center provide outdoor instructional opportunities for OUS students, pre-service and in-service teachers, area K-12 students, and the community.
