Virex for Macintosh is an anti-virus software which can detect and clean most types of computer viruses. The Office of Information Technology is providing this software at no cost to faculty, staff and currently enrolled students. This includes university-owned computers as well as home computers. Free updates are also available at no cost.
Note: Occasionally, Virex will give an error message when you try to update. If you are running Virex 7.7 and Mac OS 10.4.4 or 10.4.5, then there is a Hotfix (Hotfix 252280 for Virex 7.7 – filesize: 86.91 Kb) that can solve this problem.
Previous Version Note: If you already have virus software installed on your Mac, either from a competitor like Norton or an earlier version of Virex, you need to uninstall that software before installing this version!
