SIS Project name, contest winners announced
Rufus Initiative appeals to mascot fans, invokes university history

It’s official. The NextGen SIS project now will be known as the "Rufus Initiative."
Choosing among the 2500 name submissions was a challenge, said the project’s executive sponsor Brice Bible, but ultimately the name of OHIO’s mascot (and OHIO founding father Rufus Putnam) rose to the top. “This project is all about moving forward while keeping an eye on our institution’s traditions,” Bible said. “The ‘Rufus Initiative’ embodies that perfectly.” Committee members also liked the pop culture feel of “Rufus Initiative” rather than “Rufus Project.”
11 students suggested some variation of “Rufus.” All of those students will be recognized for their suggestion. They also will receive a piece of Rufus memorabilia.
The naming contest also included a random “NextGen gear” drawing. Anyone who submitted a name was eligible to win an iTouch or an iTunes gift card. Those winners have been notified directly via e-mail. Individuals who agreed to have their names published are listed below:
