1996 Awards Banquet

The Chapter held its annual banquet and awards ceremony on Thursday evening, May 23, 1996. The featured speaker was Dr. Norman Cohn, Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Environmental and Plant Biology. (Dr. Cohn was one of the founding members of the Ohio University Chapter.) Dr. Cohn's talk, entitled "Hot Plants are Cool," focussed on molecular biology and recent advances in genetic engineering of plants. Prior speakers at the awards banquet have included Drs. Jeannette Griselli Brown (1993), T. Lloyd Chesnut (1994), and Roger W. Finlay (1995).


Honoring Dr. Darrell O. Huwe

Dr. Darrell O. Huwe, long-time member and officer of the Ohio University Chapter of Sigma Xi, retired from the Ohio University faculty in July, 1996, and died on November 27, 1996, after a short illness.

1996 Promotions and Inductions

Full membership in Sigma Xi is awarded on the basis of scientific research accomplishments, and Associate membership is awarded on the basis of promise for a scientific research career. At this year's banquet, the Ohio University Chapter promoted and inducted eight individuals.
