(go to main index of Writing & Rhetoric II)
1. At the end of your session, remember to log out (click on the Apple icon at the upper left)
2. You can work with your own laptop, if you prefer
3. Any reference to your "personal folder" means either your flashdrive, or you can simply save to the Desktop. This is for work in progress, not yet ready for the shared folder. If you save to the Desktop, remember that the document will disappear after you log out.
4. To use our SHARED FOLDER
- read the following three steps before you click on the link
- you will be logging in with your Ohio ID and password
- when you are asked for an 'enrolment key' -- enter eng308 and click <Enrol me in this course>
- leave the shared folder window open for the rest of the session
- OK, now click the following link and once you've entered the SHARED FOLDER, return to this page to see the instructions for Adding and Getting a Document
- to Add a Document
- within Word, click on File / Save As, select the Desktop or your flashdrive
- the filename needs to have all lowercase (even your lastname), and needs to have ".docx" or ".doc" at the end, known as an extension (most of the time, your computer will add the extension automatically).
- click on <Upload a file>
- if <Upload a file> is not showing, click on <Edit files>
- browse to where you saved the document, select it, and click Open
- click on <Upload this file>
- to Get a Document
- double-click on the filename and click on Save
- if double-clicking doesn't work, try a right-click and select Save Link As or Save Target As
- add your lastname to the filename (e.g. reflection_writersname_yourlastname.docx), and choose the Desktop or your flashdrive
- in Word, use File / Open to browse to the document and open it
- if a file won't open for you, the extension is probably missing. Add ".docx" to the end to make it work properly.
5. To print in the lab
- in Word, go to the file menu and choose “Print”
- choose the printer to which you would like to print (look for the room number of the lab you're in)
- the username field will be populated already with your last name followed by your first name -- remove your name and in its place, put in your Ohio (Oak) ID and password
- do NOT check the “Remember this password in my keychain” check box
- click “OK” and your document(s) will be sent to the printer
[the following is for emergency situations, use only if instructed to do so]
6. To reach a shared folder on Blackboard
- save your document on the Desktop
- in any browser, go to blackboard.ohio.edu and login with your OU ID and password
- click on our Blackboard course listing
- click on the "My Groups" button, then All, then File Exchange
- click "Add File"
- for Name, type in the correct filename for the assignment (e.g. reflection_yourlastname), then Browse to the Desktop for your document
- confirm that you can open your document successfully
- make sure that the file opens as Word, not Open Office
7. To reach a Discussion Forum on Blackboard
- go to blackboard.ohio.edu and login with your OU ID and password
- click on our Blackboard course listing
- click on "Discussion Board" in the left margin
- click on the correct Forum
