if you are saving your
Word document to work on elsewhere, you need to make sure the other program will
recognize the kind of format, or it may not be able to open your work.
If you use Word 2007 elsewhere
you’re in luck -- just save the file
If you use Word 2003 (XP) or earlier elsewhere
when you are using Word 2007 in a lab, click on the Office button (large, in the upper left corner),
then Save As, then Word 97-2003 Document
you can avoid having to remember doing this by downloading
and installing a free converter in your own Word program (the OU Help Desk
at 593-1222 will give you details).
If you use any other word processing program
click on File / Save As,
and for "Save as Type," select Rich Text Format. An
".rtf" will be added automatically to the end of the filename.
NOTE: when you look for the document to open it, you may not see
it listed. It is there! When you click on File / Open, make sure
that "Files of Type" has "All Files" selected.
If you don't know where you'll be, Rich Text
Format is the best choice.
