Lab Alerts

1. At the end of your session, remember to log out (click on the Apple icon at the upper left)

2. You can work with your own laptop, but use only the lab computer to access the shared folder

3. Any reference to your "personal folder" means either your flashdrive, or a folder identified with your lastname that you have created in the shared folder.  This is for work in progress, not yet ready for the shared folder.  You can simply save to the Desktop, but remember that the document may disappear after you log out.

4.  To reach our SHARED FOLDER

  • if you have an icon on the Desktop called englishlabs, just click on it and choose sharpe \ eng151 (if the icon is artsci, open it to find englishlabs)

  • if your Desktop doesn't show an icon called englishlabs (or artsci), click on Finder (a button at the bottom left)

    • if shared.ohio.edu appears on the left, open it, then choose artsci \ englishlabs \ sharpe \ eng151

    • if shared.ohio.edu doesn't appear
      • click Command-K
      • in Server Address, enter smb://shared.ohio.edu/artsci/englishlabs

  • leave the shared folder window open for the rest of the session

  • within Word, click on File / Save As, select the Desktop or your flashdrive

    • NOTE: the file needs to have ".docx" at the end, known as an extension.  Most of the time, your computer will add this automatically.  If a file won't open for you, the extension is probably missing.  Add ".docx" to the end to make it work properly.

  • drag files to or from the shared folder window to the Desktop or your flashdrive

[the following is for emergency situations, use only if instructed to do so]
