Senior Class Signature - What is it?

Congrats, seniors! The long hours you spent taking notes, writing papers, giving presentations and cramming have finally paid off.  Now as you begin to countdown the days until graduation and new beginnings, SHOW your OHIO pride by joining your classmates in supporting the 2007 Senior Signature.

What is it?
The program is an annual campaign developed by the Ohio University Senior Class Council and the Office of Annual Giving to encourage participation & build a tradition of philanthropy for students and alumni.  The funds raised by this campaign always go towards a special annual project designated by graduating seniors to leave their mark and give something back to Ohio University.

Senior Signature is your opportunity to join classmates in leaving a lasting mark on Ohio University by giving a gift in honor of a favorite professor, mentor, parent or friend.  All seniors that give a gift will be listed (along with their dedication) in The Post  newspaper.  Think how special your parents, professor or mentor will feel when they see your dedication message to them at graduation.

Your gift will support the “Pathway of Traditions” - Seal Project
Senior Class Council brings you a memorable commencement speaker and an unforgettable senior class trip.  However, the most important contribution made by the Senior Class Council and fellow senior classmates is the dedication of an annual class gift.  This year, we are dedicating the gift to students, staff and alumni and the traditions that have shaped Ohio University since its founding in 1804.  This includes the Class of 2007.  We will be Ohio University alumni soon, and participation in this project will allow our tradition to remain strong.

“Our Tradition” – “Our Legacy”
Funds raised from the 2007 Senior Signature campaign will be used to construct a four foot bronze replica of Ohio University’s official seal on College Green where the brick paths meet after entering Alumni Gate.  In addition a plaque will be placed next to the seal acknowledging the contribution and dedication of the seal by the Class of 2007.  The Ohio University seal was adopted from the seal of the State of Ohio. The circle of the Ohio seal represents a shield. A sheaf of wheat represents Ohio’s agricultural heritage, and a bundle of seventeen arrows represents Ohio as the seventeenth state to join the Union. Behind these are mountains, symbolizing strength and grandeur, and the rising sun, symbolizing eternal life and the dawn of a new day.

The Class of 2007 chose College Green as the beholder of the four-foot bronze replica of Ohio University’s official seal due to the strong history College Green possesses.  The College Green is the main focus of campus where generation after generation have come together to relax; enjoy festivities or university events in the company of others.  College Green is aligned by perfectly placed brick pathways that lead students to all corners of campus and shaded by large trees some planted almost 200 years ago.  The College Green has provided a tranquil and inviting landscape to Ohio University students for over 200 years. There is no better place for such a special project to culminate than on the great landscape of College Green…Seal the Deal and Leave a Lasting Mark…

Who Benefits?
The day you set foot on this campus, private gifts to The Annual Fund have been quietly working to enrich your college experience by:  supporting scholarships, student groups, classroom equipment, research, and even campus security.

In the early years of Ohio University, graduating seniors began a tradition of giving back to OHIO through the Senior Class Giving Program. All seniors are asked to join together and raise
funds for various programs as a way to say...thank you!

Even more importantly, you will be contributing to The Annual Fund for the first time.  By giving back, seniors ensure that Ohio University continues to attract excellent students and maintain a positive academic reputation; thus, increasing the prestige of your degree. Your experience was made possible through the generosity of alumni, parents & friends. Now it is your turn to – Make a Difference!
