scan for viruses on-demand
Scans can be performed manually (e.g., on demand), automated, or both. McAfee, by default, has an “On-Access Scan” feature enabled. This feature allows the antivirus program to scan the files written to and read from your computer. Using the on-demand scanner will allow you to run the system wide scan less often, or between scheduled scans if an infection is suspected. The McAfee VirusScan is a white shield-shaped icon with a blue border and a red ‘V’ in the center. (If the icon has a red circle with a line through it, the On-Access Scan functionality is disabled. To re-enable it, right click the icon and choose “Enable On-Access Scan.”) To begin a complete system-wide virus scan: - Right click the VirusScan icon, and choose “On-Demand Scan”
- Ensure that “All Local Drives” is highlighted
- Click “Start”
To scan only specific files or folders on your computer: - Select all of the items to scan using Ctrl+Click, and right-click one of the items
- Choose “Scan for Viruses”
- When the scan is complete click “Close” to finish
