If your computer does not ask you for a password to log-in when you turn it on, your computer is set to an “Automatic Log-in” method. This method, while convenient, is highly frowned upon, as anyone will merely need to turn your computer on, to gain access to your data.

To disable automatic log-in with Windows XP:

Navigate to your Control Panel.
Double click “User Accounts”.
Select “Change the way Users Log on or off”.
Ensure that “Use the Welcome Screen” and “Use Fast User Switching” are both unchecked then click “Apply Options”.
