install ad-aware and spybot s & d
Much like anti-virus software, anti-spyware should be installed on your computer to check and remove any spyware or malware installed or hiding on your computer. Common anti-spyware applications are “Spybot Search & Destroy” and “Lavasoft Ad-Aware”. If you do not see one of these programs installed on your computer or are unsure whether you have an anti-spyware application installed on your computer, follow the steps below, or contact the Ohio University Help Desk at (740)593-1222.
To Install Ad-Aware: - Open a web browser and go to:
http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022_4-10045910.html?part=dl-ad-aware&subj=dl&tag=top5 - Click the link “Download Now” and save the file to your computer.
- Once the file has been downloaded, double click the installation file to begin.
- Click Next.
- Agree to the License Agreement and click Next
- Click Next on the next 3 pages.
- When the installation process is finished, ensure that all three checkboxes are marked and click Finish.

To Install Spybot S&D: - Open a web-browser and go to:
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html - Click on a “Download Now” link button and save the installation file to your computer.
- Once the file has been downloaded, double click the installation file to begin.
- Select your preferred language and click OK.
- Click Next.
- Accept the license agreement and click Next.
- Click Next
- Leave the installation preferences at their default (Full Installation) and click Next on the next three steps.
- Click Install to begin the installation.
- Click the Finish button to complete the installation.
