scan for spyware with Ad-Aware
Akin to anti-virus programs, Ad-Aware compares files on your computer to a set of spyware definitions to identify unwanted programs or files. Each time you open Ad-Aware, be sure to update its definitions before beginning a scan. NOTE: If you do not yet have Ad-Aware installed on your computer, click here for help in doing so. To update Ad-Aware: - On the start page of Ad-Aware, click the link “Check for Updates Now”
- In the new window, click “Connect”
- Click “OK” to download and install updates if they are available or to accept that there are no updates available, then click “Finish” when completed
To scan your computer with Ad-Aware: - Launch Ad-Aware and click the “Start” button on the main page of Ad-Aware.
- Ensure “Perform a Full System Scan” is marked, and then click “Next”
- When the scan is complete, click “Next” and checkmark all of the objects that Ad-Aware found. This can be done by right-clicking one object and choosing “Select All Objects”
- Once all objects are selected, click “Next” and then click “OK” to confirm that all of the objects will be removed.
- When finished, you will be taken back to the main page of Ad-Aware. You are finished and can close the application.
