The Schoonover Center for Communication, a new integrated facility for the college, is currently being constructed on the site of the former Baker Center on Ohio University's main campus in Athens. This building is part of Ohio University's The Promise Lives Campaign, through which more than $400 million has been raised to date in order to help bridge the gap between state funds and tuition costs by funding student access and opportunity, research, student life, the campus environment and more. A $7.5 million lead gift toward the building's construction was made in 2006 by Scripps alumnus Steven Schoonover and Barbara Schoonover.
The project is currently on track, which will allow the Dean’s Office, the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism and the School of Media Arts and Studies to move into the facility in fall 2013. The remaining schools—the J. Warren McClure School of Information and Telecommunication Systems, the School of Communication Studies and the School of Visual Communication—will move in the following year.
A celebration for the new building and honoring Steve Schoonover and his family was held Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012, on the main campus of Ohio University in Athens.
A Grand Opening celebration will be announced once the building is complete.
