Scripps Celebration honors faculty, staff, students

ATHENS, Ohio (March 27, 2014)—The Scripps College of Communication awarded faculty, staff and students at the Scripps Celebration Wed., March 26, at 6 p.m. in Baker Ballroom. In addition to these awards, the seven finalists for the Scripps Innovation Challenge were announced and winners of the 2013 Farfel Prize for Excellence in Investigative Journalism were recognized.

“The excellence of our faculty and students is the reason we are here tonight,” said Dean Scott Titsworth in his opening remarks.

The Celebration was the capstone event of Communication Week, which kicked off March 24 and concludes March 28. The roots of Communication Week in the Scripps College of Communication date back to 1968. The annual event included events, speakers and panel discussions designed to encourage student interaction with prominent leaders in the communication field and draw alumni to campus.

Individual award winners honored at the Celebration include:

  • Dr. Eddith Dashiell, L.J. Hortin Faculty Mentor Award
  • Stan Alost, Dean’s Faculty Service Award
  • Tom Daniels, Employee of the Year
  • Megan Westervelt, Student Employee of the Year
  • Zach Tumblin, Student Employee of the Year

Student organization winners include:

  • Lambda Pi Eta, Ohio University Lancaster campus, Student Organization of the Year
  • PRSSA, Student Funding Proposal Competition, 1st place
  • NCASC, Student Funding Proposal Competition, 2nd place
