Startup Weekend to foster innovation, business April 20-22
GRID Lab a partner in company creation weekend program
ATHENS, Ohio (April 9, 2012)—A group of designers, developers and entrepreneurs will create a business in just 54 hours during Startup Weekend Athens Ohio, planned on the Ohio University campus and Innovation Center on April 20, 21 and 22.
Program participants will pitch business ideas on Friday night, and continue through testing, business model development, and basic prototype creation. The event culminates on Sunday night when participants pitch to a panel of potential investors and state-wideentrepreneurs. Participants are challenged with building functional startups during the event and are able to collaborate with like-minded individuals outside of their daily networks.Attendees are given the opportunity to learn through:
- the act of creation
- building a network through working with some of Ohio's best seasoned mentors and coaches,
- stepping outside of a comfort zone by working on a new platform
- finding ideal team members for an idea
- joining a global community of over 45,000 Startup Weekend Alumni
- and, of course, launching a business.
Pitches and networking (Friday and Sunday nights) will be held in Walter Hall, room 235, and the remainder of the weekend will be in the Innovation Center's 36,500 square foot facility.
Meals, snacks, and refreshments will be available throughout the weekend, provided by event sponsors. Housing arrangements must be made by attendees.Students can attend for just $49 and general admission is $99. No persons will be admitted without prior registration. Athens' Startup Weekend, sponsored by the Game Research and Immersive Design (GRID) Lab and Ohio University's Innovation Center, is an opportunity for designers, developers, and entrepreneurs to come get real world experience by collaborating with other creative minds to turn their idea into a business.
