ATHENS, Ohio (Feb. 20, 2012) – Hiram Foster, an Ohio University junior majoring in Communication Studies, has received both the 2011 Outstanding Solon E. Summerfield Scholarship and the Ernest H. Garbe Award from the Phi Kappa Psi Foundation.

Foster serves as president of Phi Kappa Psi, one of the fourteen men’s fraternities at Ohio University. Foster, an Honors Tutorial College student, is also studying the Mandarin language.

The honors he received are based on his academic and leadership excellence throughout the past three years. As the Outstanding Solon E. Summerfield Scholar, Foster receives the top scholarship of $3,000. In addition to a runner-up scholarship of $2,500 and a second runner-up scholarship of $2,000, the program provides up to 25 $1,000 scholarships to undergraduates.

The Ernest H. Garbe Award consists of two $2,500 scholarships and recognizes graduate or undergraduate students majoring in journalism or communications (including advertising and broadcasting).
