How to Enter
Criteria for entries:
- The story or series will have exposed major issues or problems such as improprieties or injustices, mismanagement, and/or corruption. It should have provoked the public to recognize a major wrong and raised public awareness of the issue.
- Open to any newspaper that published in print or online three or more times a week in 2012, television or radio stations, online news sites or websites, broadcast or cable networks, cable systems, wire services, news syndicates, syndication or program services, or news magazines. Staff member(s) and/or freelance contributor(s) are eligible. May be individual or team entry.
WHAT TO ENTER: Work must have originally published or aired in 2012. Entries are limited to 10 items (a day's presentation is counted as one item even if it includes several pieces). Content must be submitted as it originally appeared. Supplemental material, which does not factor into the 10 item limit, must be clearly marked. Include script(s).
A nomination or cover letter must be included. Be sure to include the name of the person who should be notified if the entry is declared a winner or finalist along with their contact information: phone number, e-mail address and mailing address (not a post office box number).
HOW TO ENTER: Entrant should upload video and enter URL(s) on our online entry site at http://www.shawards.org/. Video file(s) (50 MB maximum per file - not per entire entry) must be one of the following formats: wmv, mpeg or mp4. All audio files should be in mp3 format. Online material must be available on a live URL that functions on a standard web browser. Publication dates must be visible on PDFs.
MAIL-IN OPTION: This option is intended for an entry that has a file that exceeds the 50 MB per file limit and is not linked to a third-party site. Entrant MUST complete the entry form on the awards site, print the confirmation form, and include it with the submitted DVD or CD formatted for cross-platform use (PC/Mac). Audio files should be in mp3 format. Label the disc(s) with the category, title of the entry, and the confirmation number
There is a $50 entry fee.
Prize is $15,000 and a trophy. Entry form asks for name of individual entrant, a team when up to four are involved, or a media outlet when more than four are involved. Expanded recognition will be given should a media outlet win and want to name more than four individuals. Winner agrees to attend awards presentation May 9 at the Waldorf Astoria in Naples, Fla., home of the Naples Daily News, a Scripps publication.
