Update Your Status, Become an RA!

The Department of Residential Housing is now accepting applications for Resident Assistants for the 2010-2011 academic year! To be considered for an RA position, please follow the steps outlined below.

1 - Fill out and print the application. Applications should be typed.

2 - Print two (2) copies of the recommendation form and have two individuals fill it out on your behalf. One person must be a current or former Residential Housing staff member; the other may be a faculty member, former teacher, counselor, administrator, or supervisor.

3 - Both the application and two (2) completed recommendation forms are due by January 25th, 2010 by 5:00 PM to the Residential Housing Central Office in 060 Chubb Hall.


Paraprofessional Positions  

Residential Housing employs a large number of students in paraprofessional in-hall positions within our department. These positions include Resident Assistants (RA), Administrative Resident Assistants (ARA) and Senior Resident Assistants (SRA). ARA and SRA positions are only available to paraprofessional staff with at least three quarters of previous experience with the department.

The Hiring Process
The Department of Residential Housing goes through a paraprofessional staff hiring process only once each year. The process begins during winter quarter and involves a written application, interview process and training. All candidates who successfully complete the application and interview phase will be required to complete EDCP 400, our RA training class, before they will be eligible for placement with the department.

Resident Assistant

A Resident Assistant (RA) is a paraprofessional staff member who serves the 30-40 residents of a floor section in a variety of ways -- from helping students to coordinating educational programs, from fostering community to role-modeling to administering university policies. This is a people-oriented position that requires emotional maturity, self-awareness, and interpersonal communication skills. Successful candidates musst demonstratve the ability to assist students in the areas of:

  • health & safety
  • scholarship
  • student development
  • citizenship
  • diversity

Administrative Resident Assistants and Senior Resident Assistants fulfill the role of Resident Assistants with the added responsibilities of greater administrative and leadership duties within their hall or complex.

Salary & Benefits:

  Resident Assistants 
 

  Room:  $1,661/qtr. (90% of room rate; your share equals $184/qtr.)  

  Stipend: $2140 in 1st year, $3240 in 2nd year.

  Bonus:  RAs who are with the department three or more quarters will receive a bonus* at the end of each quarter (included in regular paycheck).  The RA must complete the entire quarter to receive the bonus (with exceptions granted by the director). This check will rise in increments depending on the number of quarters with the department. 

        Quarters 4, 5, and 6  $100.00 bonus   Quarters 7 and above  $150.00 bonus

  Programming/Staff Development Funds:  RAs will receive $80 for the year to use for programming (e.g., bulletin board supplies, program supplies) and/or staff development funds.  These funds will be deposited into the RC's/RD's programming account. 
   
  

 

  Administrative Resident Assistants 
 

  Room:  $1,845/qtr. (100% of room rate)

  Stipend:  $3981 in 1st year, $4299 in 2nd year.

  Bonus:  ARAs will receive a $200 bonus* at the end of each quarter (included in regular paycheck).  The ARA must complete the entire quarter to receive the bonus (with exceptions granted by the director). 

  Programming/Staff Development Funds:  ARAs will receive $80 for the year to use for programming (e.g., bulletin board supplies, program supplies) and/or staff development funds.  These funds will be deposited into the RC's/RD's programming account. 
   
 

 

  Senior Resident Assistants

  Room:  $1,845/qtr. (100% of room rate)

  Stipend:  $5981 in 1st year, $6299 in 2nd year. 

  Programming/Staff Development Funds:  SRAs will receive $80 for the year to use for programming (e.g., bulletin board supplies, program supplies) and/or staff development funds.  These funds will be deposited into the RC's/RD's programming account.
